प्रकृति ने मनुष्य को तीन प्रकार की शक्तियां प्रदान की हैं- (1) शारीरिक (2) मानसिक या बौद्धिक (3) आध्यातिमक इन तीनों प्रकार की शकितयों का विकास ही संस्कृति का मूल लक्ष्य है। भारतीय संस्कृति की गंगा का उत्स वैदिक वाड.मय है। वेद भाारतीयों के पवित्र धर्म ग्रन्थ हैं। वे इन्हें र्इश्वरीय ज्ञान मानते हैं और स्वतन्त्र और अंतिम प्रमाण के रूप में स्वीकार करते हैंं वेद कालीन भारतीय आर्यों ने इस शकितयों के सामंजस्य पूर्ण विकास को अपना लक्ष्य बनाया।
